Whitby is a quaint maritime town set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs and bays. Its skyline is dominated by by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on Whitby's East Cliff. Spreading below Whitby, a maze of alleyways and narrow streets run down to the busy quayside. From the old town of Whitby, 199 steps lead up to the parish church of St. Mary, whose churchyard gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write his world famous book, Dracula.

Wai Aye bonny boat may be uttered at this juncture as the chart plotter is aimed at Whitby. A south easterly course will be set passing Redcar before turning due south into the estuary with
Whitby ahead. With Pier road to starboard and Church Street to port, Whitby should represent a stark contrast to the larger venues in the North - and fish and chips will await the crew!
