ROUND BRITAIN is a 1600 mile adventure, departing from Brixham marina in May 2008 with a planned 23 ports of call over 8 weeks. An old adage says 'any port in a storm' and so the schedule may need to be varied to accommodate the British weather. However, the Captain’s Blog will keep you abreast of Nick’s movements on a day to day basis.

NICKS boat, Reel Estate is a 6 berth Fairline Phantom 43 flybridge cruiser (a 'double decker motor boat' for those not initiated into the world of boating) boasting twin 460hp engines providing a cruising speed of 20–25 knots - weather permitting.

NICK is relishing the thought of rounding Lands End and turning into the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. Next it will be north through the Irish Sea and on to the west coast of Scotland where he will take advantage of the ‘short cut’ through the Caledonian Canal. Then it's out into the North Sea, down the east coast and finally into the English Channel and west towards home to complete his Round Britain trip.

THEY say that all adventures begin with a bright idea - and Nick's bright idea is to go Round BritainNick - Round Britain at the helm of his boat Reel Estate. No great shakes you may think, but being partly disabled as a result of a spinal trauma, the trip will be something of a challenge for Nick as well as being the realisation of a long held ambition.

NOT content with tackling a personal goal, Nick has also set himself the additional challenge of raising £10,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)RNLI - Round Britain - the invaluable rescue service on permanent standby for “those in peril on the sea”. Television productions such as “Real Rescue” have conveyed some of the dangers that these heroic seamen face - all the more remarkable when you consider that the crews comprise of unpaid volunteers and the RNLI is funded solely by voluntary contributions.
