Grimsby is a seaport on the Humber Estuary indelibly linked with the sea fishing industry that led to its rapid growth and wealth in the early 19th century. At its peak it was the largest and busiest fishing port in the world. However this industry has been in decline for many years. It remains home to the largest fish market in the UK although most of what is sold is now brought overland from other ports or even overseas via containerisation.
